Student Visa Application
|
| |
|
Student’s
from one of the European Union countries will
not need a visa to study in the UK. All other
international students will require a visa to
study.
Preparation for
Applying for Your General Student Visa
The first thing to check is that you have a
valid passport. The next step is to apply to
the London Academy of Management Sciences and
once admission is secured, apply for a visa
to the UK.
|
|
Being
Offered a Place at London Academy of Management
Sciences
To secure a place at the
Academy please fill in an application form
and email back to us along with: |
| 1.
|
evidence
of your academic qualifications |
| 2. |
evidence
that you meet the minimum English Language
entry requirements |
| 3. |
copy
of your passport |
| 4. |
references
wherever applicable |
Once
you have supplied these items to the Admissions
Office, provided you meet the entry requirements,
an offer letter will be issued. Should you decide
to accept the offer please make payment of the
first year tuition fees. On receipt of this we
will issue an acceptance letter which will contain
the necessary paperwork for a visa application.
|
|
|
Your
Acceptance Pack
The acceptance pack contains a visa letter which
will secure you important points for a visa
application. You should keep it safe until you
submit during your Visa application. Make copies
of all letters sent to you but particularly
the Visa Letter. Please remember to submit the
original document in support of your visa application.
The Visa Letter will contain essential information
about you, us as your academic sponsor, your
proposed programme of study, any payments that
you have made to the Academy and the key documents
that you used to apply for your course. This
is the only document that will be required and
accepted by the UK Border Agency as sufficient
to meet the requirement for 30 points, towards
the overall 40 points that must be scored to
be issued with a Tier 4 General Student Visa.
You should apply for your Tier 4 General Student
Visa immediately on receiving the acceptance
letters. Different Embassies and High Commissions
have different visa processing dates, during
busy times of the year the visa issuing process
can be slower.
|
|
Applying
for Your General Student Visa
Your visa application will be assessed
under the new points based criteria.
You should make your application under
Tier 4 – General Student. To gain
a General Student Visa, you need to
acquire 40 points:
|
| Visa
letter
|
30
points granted for the visa letter and
the original academic documents issued
to grant you admission at the Academy.
|
| Bank
statement |
10
points gained by providing your personal
bank statement showing that you have
sufficient money to meet the maintenance
costs set by the UK Border Agency, which
has been calculated as £5400 (£600x9
months). |
Applying
for your general student visa
If you wish to come to
the UK to study, it is recommended that you
apply as a General Student. Application forms

be processed can be found here. Please note
that this is an estimate only and you should
always allow as long a period as you can. |

Maintenance Requirements for
Study at London Academy of Management Sciences
For visa applications made on or after 1 October
2009, these funds must be held for a minimum
of 28 days continuously before submitting their
visa application.
The Maintenance Requirement simply means proving
that you have enough money to support yourself
during your studies, as well as your course
fees. This is a vital part of the Visa application
process - You cannot get a General Student Visa
without meeting the Maintenance Requirement.
The amount of money that you will need to show
depends on the length of your course and where
you will study. For courses at London Academy
of management Sciences this is:
| Duration
of course |
Maintenance
requirements for General Student Visa |
Each
dependant you bring with you |
| Nine
months or less |
Your
Course fees paid to the Academy
and
£600 per month
|
£400
per month, per dependant |
| More
than nine months |
First
year of your course fees paid to the
Academy
and
£5,400 for living costs for 9
months in the UK
|
£400
per month, per dependant, for up to
12 months |
Note that for Tier 4 (Student) Visa applications,
London Academy of Management Sciences is classified
as outside inner London. If the length of the
course includes part of a month, then you should
round up the calculation to the next near month.
For example a six week English Course followed
by your main programme of study will need you
to provide 2 months evidence of maintenance.
|
 |
What
Documentation is Acceptable as Evidence of Meeting
the Maintenance Requirement?
You can demonstrate that you have the funds for
your studies, by providing a bank statement, your
first year course fees should be paid to the Academy.
Your finances should be shown as follows:
| 1. |
cash
in a bank account or building society, in
your name or joint name |
| 2. |
a
loan in your name, or |
| 3. |
written
evidence from your financial sponsor who
is a recognised sponsorship agency or a
government agency from your home country. |
Money held as shares, bonds, pension funds and
similar savings accounts are not acceptable
as evidence.
Written evidence from family members, friends,
or business associates outlining their financial
support for you will not meet the maintenance
requirement; funds must be in your name, and
available to you in your bank account for a
period of 28 days before you apply for a General
Student Visa application.

If
you are already in the UK, and your existing visa
expires more than one month before the start date
of your next course of study, you will be expected
to return to your home country and apply for the
General Student visa from outside of the UK. For
example if your visa is expiring in July and your
next course is starting in January you are expected
to return to your home country for a visa extension.
