PGD Strategic Business IT leading to MSc 

This programme is designed for IT and computing graduates or IT practitioners who wish to further develop their career. The programme covers a wide range of contemporary issues and develops the critical, analytical and technical skills needed by senior staff. The programme will also develop the academic skills required for further study at Master's level.

Level of Qualification
This qualification is in two parts. Both the PgD and the Masters is at level 7 of the National Qualifications Framework. The PgD Strategic Business IT is the taught part of the programme and the Masters is the research part.

Entry Requirements
On entry a student must have at least one of the following:
Route 1 (Academic - IT Graduates)
 
UK bachelor's degree with honours (or equivalent) in Information Technology, Computer Science or related subject.
Route 1a (Academic - IT graduates with non-honours degrees)
 
IT graduates who hold a bachelor's ordinary or pass-level degree (or equivalent) in Information Technology or related subject with exceptionally high marks may be considered for admission, at the discretion of NCC Education.
Route 2 (Mixed - other graduates)
 
UK bachelor's degree with honours in a non-IT related subject (or equivalent) AND
  Three years' work experience in an IT environment.
Route 3 (Vocational - IT professionals, mostly part-time)
 
Five years' work experience in an IT environment AND
  The ability to demonstrate suitability for academic study, via personal or telephone interview with the programme co-ordinator at the student's Accredited partner Centre.
Applicants whose first language is not English will need an IELTS score of 6.5 or equivalent.

Programme Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion of the programme you should be able to demonstrate:
 
a critical understanding of and ability in the tools and techniques of the analysis of IT and requirements
 
a critical understanding of Global Technology Management and issues related to ICT
  a critical understanding of the theory and practice of IT application within the context of business enterprise.
  an understanding of principles and practices derived from each of the modules studied and integrate and apply the knowledge and skills gained, in a new area or form, to enhance the performance of an enterprise
  ability to contribute to the development of related disciplines by research.
  a critical understanding of and ability in the tools, techniques and equipment used in the development of IS applications
  fundamental management skills and techniques relating to the leadership of projects
  The ability to analyse a problem systematically and implement an effective solution, as an individual or in co-operation with others involved in an enterprise
Programme Structure
The programme is taught over 18 Months to 24 months. The PgD portion consists of two semesters of full time study plus revision time which takes one year. Students will study a minimum of two modules in each semester. On successful completion of the PgD students can obtain the Masters by undertaking two further modules. This part normally takes between 6 months to 12 months to complete.

  Awarding Body
 
PgD Strategic Business IT is awarded by NCC Education. The MSc is awarded by a number of different UK Universities including the University of Gloucestershire and the University of Greenwich.

  Progression 
 
The qualification is designed to allow entry to and/or enhance progression in a wide range of management roles in the public, private or charitable sectors.

Students can progress to a range of Masters programmes. The degree titles available include MSc Applied Computing, MSc Information Systems Management and MSc Strategic Business IT.
